J Taylor Education’s Depth and Complexity Mini Student Cards: How to Use Them

J Taylor Education offers an excellent differentiation tool for student use: Depth and Complexity Mini Student Cards. These Depth & Complexity Icon cards are perfect for little hands. A complete set of Depth and Complexity dimension icon cards are quarter-page (4.25″ x 5.5″) in size. The reverse of each card contains a few student-friendly definitions/synonyms with 2-3 task starter questions related to the icon pictured.

Teachers report using these cards in a variety of helpful ways. Students can quiz each other about curriculum as a review/assessment tool. Students can work in small groups and play games related to what they are studying by pulling a card from the deck and trying to apply it accurately. Teachers even suggest using the cards as a method of evaluating what students know in the midst of a lesson. For example, students can show an icon from their ring at various stages of a lesson. If called on, students have to explain their reasoning as to the icon they chose. Teachers can gauge who is ready for further differentiation on a topic by the icons the student(s) choose to display and explain.

This set is perfect for students to share and you’ll love their ease-of-use. Sets come complete with a book ring and drilled hole in the left corner of each card for easy storage and organization.
